Roger Weiss, MD

Psychiatrist

My approach is to understand with the patient in a collaborative way what they are suffering from and how best to approach the problem.

About

Roger Weiss, MD

When someone seeks treatment from a psychiatrist they are usually suffering in some way. Anxiety, depression, conflict, psychological pain or confusion are some hallmarks of what brings someone to treatment. Part of the human experience for many people is not feeling understood. Psychiatric treatment begins with a full understanding of the patient, their history, their thoughts, their fantasies, their conflicts, their hopes and dreams. After this diagnostic phase we enter a mutually agreed-upon treatment approach, whether psychotherapy or medication, or both. Empathic listening and insight is the center of my therapeutic work with patients. My activity may vary depending on the nature of the particular issues being dealt with. It is my view that all visits and contact with the patient should have a therapeutic value, even if it's simply clarification of their present state. In this way, the patient may gain a better understanding of themselves from a conscious and subconscious level, allowing them to make better decisions and alleviate pain.

Born and raised in New York, I received my medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Psychiatric Residency was at Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. My wife and I recently moved to Los Angeles to be near our two sons and three grandchildren. She is a relationship therapist. I maintained a private practice for more than 30 years while also training and supervising psychiatric residents at Pennsylvania Hospital. I was an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.

Reviews for

Roger Weiss, MD

Dr. Weiss has been thoughtful, accommodating and easy to check-in with. He has responded to messages in a timely manner and explained the process of video-mediated psychiatry clearly.

Thorough, knowledgeable and helpful. Dr. Weiss is a rockstar-Highly recommended.

Friendly and warm in a professional manner. Great listening skills and empathy. His experience was evident in our discussions and his advice and support.

When I first sat down in his office, I was a little nervous. I had never needed any mental health professional before this point in my life. Now, I feel incredibly comfortable, and I have great faith in what he says. While maintaining complete professionalism, Dr. Weiss can almost feel like a very wise friend who is very good at listening.

My life has changed completely, in the best way possible, since I began seeing Dr. Weiss. Our sessions are always thought-provoking and well rounded. I would recommend him to anyone seeking to better themselves.
