Leslie Hemedes, PsyD

I believe that the ultimate goal of therapy is to alleviate pain, establish hope, and find balance.

Leslie Hemedes, PsyD

I am passionate about helping clients facilitate new understandings, remove barriers, resolve conflicts, achieve goals, live more authentically, and establish a greater connection to valued relationships. I assist clients in feeling more equipped to the handle the challenges of everyday life. I provide support for concerns related to stress, depression, anxiety, career, work-related concerns, relationship difficulties, self-esteem, gender/social roles, life transitions, parenting difficulties, unresolved childhood experiences, grief and loss, trauma, and body image concerns. My style of treatment is shaped by psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and dialectical behavioral principles. I use a strength-based and relational approach to treatment with an emphasis on collaboration, openness, and empowerment. I assist clients in learning what lens they use to understand themselves and the world around them. I encourage clients to explore how their experiences have led them to develop their unique perspectives, beliefs, values, and expectations. I help clients begin to tease apart what's helpful and unhelpful about the ways they understand themselves/others. I encourage clients to become more aware of how unhelpful ways of thinking/feeling/behaving can lead to feelings of depression, isolation, anxiety, hopelessness, low motivation, a lack of fulfillment, helplessness, and difficulty meeting one's goals. Throughout the process, I offer insights that can be helpful in identifying the tools that will enable clients to become the best versions of themselves.

I obtained a Bachelors of Science (B.S.) in Psychology from the University California, San Diego, a Masters of Arts (M.A.) in Psychology from Long Island University (Brooklyn), and a Doctorate degree (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. I have been working with children, adolescents, and adults in community mental health, private practice, and hospital settings throughout my clinical practice. I specialize in concerns related to Women's Health, Teens, and Relationships.
