Virginia Gilbert, LMFT

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who has been providing therapy to adults and couples for 15 years.

Virginia Gilbert, LMFT

I specialize in the treatment of divorce (especially high-conflict divorce), intimate partner betrayal, and sex and love addiction. Although my preference is to help couples transcend their issues and attach in healthy ways, I realize that not every couple is meant to stay together. My therapeutic approach draws from multiple modalities including narrative therapy, solution-focused, mindfulness, CBT, DBT, and trauma resiliency. Additionally, my work is informed by attachment theory (how our early attachment experiences shape our current relationships) and 12-step principles.

I graduated from Georgetown University with a B.A. in English, and Antioch University Los Angeles with an M.A. in Clinical Psychology. I completed clinical training at the Southern California Counseling Center, and practiced for a year at the Center for Healthy Sex, where I treated people struggling with sexual compulsivity. Other treatment settings that I have worked in include an adolescent residential treatment facility and two substance abuse rehabs. I am also a freelance writer and my book, Transcending High-Conflict Divorce: How To Disengage From Your Ex And Find Your Power, was published in 2019.
