About

Michael Vagts, MD

My practice style focuses on building a partnership with you to address your unique goals for treatment. This often begins with stabilizing or reducing initial symptoms but can transition into exploring how patterns in relationships, career or existential issues may be contributing. I utilize both psychopharmacologic medications and psychotherapy in treatment, but leave open to our mutual discussion which options may be appropriate at a given time.

I enjoy working with people across the entire spectrum of psychiatric severity. Some of my interests include psychodynamic psychotherapy, mindfulness, substance use disorders, mood/anxiety disorders, sport/performance psychiatry, technology and mental health, and issues related to life-stage transitions.

My academic background includes an undergraduate degree from UCLA in Physics, Master’s degree in Physics from UC Berkeley, MD from David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, MBA from Anderson School of Management at UCLA and I completed my psychiatry residency at San Mateo Behavioral Health and Recovery Services.
