David Ruecker, MD

I look forward everyday to helping my patients in their developmental journeys towards strength, flexibility, healthy boundaries, self-awareness, sound family systems, and ample smiles.

David Ruecker, MD

Childhood, adolescence, and young adulthood are the most exciting and challenging times for the development of the human psyche. Parents, grandparents, step-parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, neighbors, teachers,...we all lend a hand in guiding young minds to become the adults of tomorrow. We all have the best intentions and hope for the healthiest outcome for those grappling with growth and the tumult of change. Occasionally these individuals find themselves inexplicably trapped in unhealthy or mysterious behavioral patterns. And sometimes the ecology of their home, school, or work may be in opposition to their general mental health. Unfortunately, individuals can’t always fix or even notice these negative patterns. This juncture is where I can help. My approach to child, adolescent, and young adult psychiatry focuses on empowering the individual and family through psychoeducation and psychopharmacological interventions to surmount these challenges that prevent the individual from being their best selves. When we strive for our best selves we can develop an enduring sense of pride. I have seen my patients succeed in their endeavors and grow into their independence. I am dedicated to providing my patients with the most rigorously tested and modern therapeutic and medicinal solutions. My years of practice providing a variety of specialized and general psychiatry has outfitted me with a robust toolkit of solutions.

My education, medical training, and psychiatric practice have been unique with an exposure to a huge variety of regions with wide socio-economic strata. I received two undergraduate degrees at UC Davis studying physical anthropology with an emphasis on primate behaviors and neuroscience. I then partook in research at Scripps investigating the effects of cigarettes and high fat diets on the development of atherosclerosis and cervical cancer. Thereafter I attended New York Medical College learning in hospitals throughout the tri-state area and likely ate more than my fair share of the best pizza on earth. I was extremely fortunate to return to California to complete my residency and fellowship at UCLA and Cedars Sinai Medical Center, respectively. Working to heal students, veterans, celebrities, and aspiring artists was a blessing and helped both expand and hone my appreciation for humanity. Thereafter I practiced in Hawaii in a host of locations and when I wasn’t too busy in the hospitals and clinics I caught some gnarly waves, hiked some volcanoes, and scuba dived with the turtles and sharks. For the past four years I practiced in the Bay Area as the Lead Child Psychiatrist for Contra Costa County working with an underserved population, but now fortuitously I have made my way back to my hometown so I can lend a hand to the sunny community that I cherish. I’m looking forward to helping you help yourself.
