About

Deborah Raphael, MD

I am honored to be part of the PCPA and practice in this very welcoming and collaborative setting. I have been trained in multiple modalities of psychotherapy, including but not limited to Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Family Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. My style tends to be integrative, and incorporates elements from the various modalities to best fit the patient’s needs. I’m also well-versed in psychopharmacology and can prescribe medications when indicated. I enjoy working collaboratively with patients and families, and strive to be a clear, caring, and compassionate communicator. I feel that my extensive background in working with children also helps inform my clinical work with adult patients in a meaningful way, as it has helped position me to understand and interpret the impact of early childhood experiences on current behavioral patterns. It will be a privilege to work together with you in the service of enhancing your overall well being, and I look forward to meeting you!

I’m originally from the East Bay, and went to UC San Diego where I graduated with a major in Physiology and Neuroscience and a minor in Sociology. I continued at UC San Diego for Medical School, and then came back up north to complete my post-graduate training in General Adult Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at UC San Francisco. After my training, I returned to the East Bay and worked for seven years at Contra Costa County as a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. I’ve also done consultation work for adolescents with eating disorders, which has been educational and rewarding. I am honored to be part of the PCPA and practice in this very welcoming and collaborative setting.
